One week of football camp, six weeks of practice, four scrimmages, two games, $40 cleats, $30 receiver gloves, $160 in fees...and it all comes to an end in one tackle. My son was having just a great time playing football. Dispite naysayers, he was a good player. He was willing to learn and work hard.
But last night put an end to it all. He was tackled in practice and landed funny on his foot. The coach looked at it and seemed to think it was just a bad bruise. We came home, iced it, took some Advil, and put him to bed. He said it felt better this morning but still hurt and it was still pretty swollen. He wanted to go to school so I sent him off with the promise I would be there later to take him to doctor when they could get him in. I got him to the doctor by noon, got x-rays, talked to the doctor...broken. Tiny little fracture causing a whole lot of trouble. She referred us to a sports medicine doctor for next week and put him in a pretty grey boot.
My extremely active son is sidelined...from football, biking, rollerblading, etc. He could drive us crazy over the next weeks. The doctor said these types of breaks can take a long time to heal. I guess we will see how it goes.
